Reminder, Bluebonnet opens Tuesday Jan 2, at noon

Reminder that Bluebonnet Brew-Off registration opens Tuesday Jan 2 at noon. The popular categories are likely to fill up within hours. If you are unsure about which style your beer fits into, you can always move it to a different style at a later date (as long as the style is still open and you have paid your entry fee).

January’s COC is a great way to prep for BBO as we should have the COC judging completed before the BBO registration closes on Jan 27th. January COC registration closes Jan 9th at 5pm and entries due at the club meeting at North Texas Homebrew Supply.

And for the last time this year, the medals go to ….

We had 9 excellent entries for the last COC of the year and when I say excellent I mean excellent with a majority of the scores in the 40’s. But the judges were able to sort out the medal winners with the gold going to David Bierschenk with a English Mild, the silver went to Doug Hicks with his Scottish Heavy and the bronze went to Marcio Fazzani with a Imperial Stout.

Thanks to Harry Anderson, Amanda Garland, James “Smitty” Smith and Terry Olinger for judging these excellent beers.

Thanks to North Texas Homebrew Supply for allowing us to use their store for few hours and Terry Olinger for staying late.

Reminder you collect Brewer Royale points for being a COC judge.

Thanks again to all who entered, the first COC of 2024 will be in January, registration will open January 1st and close the day of the January club meeting (COC takes place on the odd numbered months).

Cheers John,

Inaugural Texas Homebrew Club Invitational Tournament

The Houston area Mashtronauts club is hosting a heads up, bracket style inter-club competition next month.

The rules are straight forward, each club can enter 3 beers (and an optional 4th if one bottle ends up broken) . Each beer will be labeled as Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and judged against another club’s Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 bottles. You can think of it as mini-best of show judging.

The winning beer from each round will move forward.

Since this is a mini-best of show style judging no score sheets are given, But since the event will be live stream you can hear the judge’s comments in real time !

Anyone interested in submitting a beer, ping me and if possible bring your entry to the club meeting at ODD MUSE on Tuesday October 10th (don;t bring the beer into the tap room though). You will need to include the style as well.

If we get more then 3 entries we will need to figure out a way to choose just three; coin toss, arm wrestling, pistol duel, I’m open to suggestions. If someone has two entries they would like to enter just bring them both and will decide which one (or both) to enter.

Remember you are representing the club so lets find those 40+ point entries that I know everyone can brew and enter those.

Any questions, ping me at [email protected]

The medals go to …….

For the penultimate COC of ’23 the competition was close with 10 entries in 10 different styles. After much discussion the judges, Amanda Garland, James “Smitty” Smith, David Jones and the esteemed Bill Lawrence, selected Heath Garth and his Marzen for the Bronze, Steve Littel picked up the Silver for his Wesissbier, and Marcio Fazzani took home the Gold with his Catharina Sour.

You can see the results over at coc.nthba.org and download your score sheet.

Thanks to North Texas Homebrew Supply for allowing us to use their store for few hours and Terry Olinger for staying late.

Reminder you collect Brewer Royale points for being a COC judge.

Thanks again to all who entered, the last COC of the year will be in November, registration will open November 1st and close the day of the November club meeting (COC takes place on the odd numbered months).
