Re: Water

I frequently use "Costco Purified Water with Minerals added for Taste" at one point I found a water quality report that listed these values for the minerals.

Calcium: 2.69 ppm
Magnesium: 0.11 ppm
Chloride: 6.29 ppm
Sodium: 2.43 ppm
Bicarbonate: 12.50 ppm

These are average values.

Re: Water

The table I included is for the Wylie treatment plant, if you follow the length then you can see the Tawakoni and bonham treatment plant reports. I checked with Dallas Water utilities and their water quality report does not include secondary contaminants that are relevant to brewers. I build my wate...

Water

Since water is an ingredient typically used in brewing [citation needed] I thought it would be a good idea to share this resource for those trying to adjust their water profiles. North Texas Municipal Water District provides monthly water quality reports that include mineral analysis relevant to bre...

Re: Winter Warmer Recipe

What yeast are you using?

Also 8 oz of special B in a 3 gallon batch sounds high, it might be good but I am cautious about using too much caramel malt.

Re: Skittlebrau

SkittleBrau Cream Ale tasting notes: I poured the bottle carbonated with orange Skittles, and one of the control beers carbonated with sugar. The control beer was "homebrew clear" the Skittle carbonated beer was hazy. Both my wife and I detected an orange flavor with the skittle beer that ...

Re: What's your next Brew and what is different about it?

Woke up at 4AM this morning to brew this brown ale in order to use up some ingredients. This is the first time I used a brew bag with my anvil foundry. Will definitely be using the brew bag in the future, since BIAB is my preferred method.

Re: Skittlebrau

Update; two weeks ago I brewed 1 gallon of a Cream Ale to test this carbonation method further, yesterday I bottles 5 bottles each with a different color of skittle with the remaining bottled using 1/2 tsp table sugar as a control. I will give these a couple of weeks to carbonate , then a week in th...

Re: Need some special roast

Kettle to Keg in Sherman say they have it in stock. https://kettletokegtx.com/product/bries ... oast-malt/

I have 0.812 lbs of Dingemans Aromatic Malt, and 0.28 lbs of Dingemans Biscuit Malt if that helps.

Skittlebrau

I am sure everyone here has wondered one time or another why can’t you get beer with candy floating in it. I recently purchased a beer starter kit because I wanted the little big mouth bubbler it came with for my small batches. This kit came with fizzy drops for bottle conditioning which got me thin...

Cutting corners to make a well rounded beer

This is primarily meant as a test post for this form. Having small kids I am continually looks for ways to simplify my brew day. I have switched to full volume 45 minute mash, and a 45 minute boil. Using a first wort hop addition helps makeup for the lost isomerization of the shorter boil. I have ex...
